Hey everyone I have kinda got a question on my hands. Did our people actually wear full war bonnets of the plains people. I'm having a hard time believeing so. I thought at one point and time our men wore the porky roach with a feather. Does anyone know the answer to this one? Something about seeing pople wear a war bonnet when they are representing Cherokee people doesn't seem the right thing to me.... Then again I could be wrong,,, maybe our people began to wear them because that is what white men expected to see us in when taking photos with our cheifs back in the day???

no..the cherokee did not wear war bonnets like the plains people ..a traditional head dress might be a porcupine quill display perhaps decorated with feathers. That being said, I know that personal adornment became less ritualized with the euro-intrusion. I have seen early 20th century photos of eastern band cherokee wearing bonnets..my guess is that such things were posed for tourists..
Chief Lee? any thoughts?

Also, some of our Cherokee men shaved on the side of hair and moved long hair on the back with a porcupine quill or porky roach display perhaps decorated with feathers on the back in the 19th to early 20th Century. In the present day, I think some of middle age and elders wearing a Cowboy straw hat. I'm wearing that pretty often, I bent the straw hat down a bit on the sides, front and on the back with steam, looks good on me and some of our people.

Wado Two Shadows for kind words my brother!!
I'm so glad to see you around again.
This forum looks much better! I proud of you and our Admins, glad to have new members around here. I would like to chatting with them.
BTW, (By The Way) the weather is getting nice, sunny and very warm in East, Texas today (Tues). So, I have enough energy and keep busy on my Truck parts and primer them daily.... funny thing is I brought 2 doors inside of my the Mobile Home, one very good used driver's side door on the coffee table with thick blanket under of it and one shot driver's side door laying on the floor by the coffee table, LOL. I'm parting out one shot door and bolts on into a very good used driver's side door. So, it'll helps me to saving more time working inside when a nasty weather is coming out.
