I was looking at the universal greeting osiyo.. and was thinking about the word donadogohvi or dodadagohvi (let us meet again)
but I was wondering about nvdadohiyu or shortened dohiyo or shortened even more dohi
meaning.."walk in peace" are any of these three used commonly by the Cherokee or only in certain settings?
any thoughts? jisdu? drifting sun? talking forest? « Reply #1 on Jun 13, 2009, 8:25am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Siyo. Here the say tohiju or dohiju when meeting and often shorten it to tohi. Tohi, meaning well peacefull etc and ju meaning you. It is a question; are you well or how are you. The reply is tohiqu (well I am). Other replys are used depending on the situation. I dont know of it used in parting though it may be diferent in the east. Link to Post - Back to Top 205.188.116.16 jisdu « Reply #2 on Jun 13, 2009, 8:39am »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When replying to "tohiju" Cherokee tend to be understated and reply "osiqu" ( litttle bit well) or "stigit" ( just a little ). So....... Why were there no Cherokee or Creeks at the first thanksgiving? Cause the pilgrims asked how they were and the Cherokee replied "stigit". The Creeks were un-invited cause they asked the pilgrims "You wana Turkey?" (fugit in Creek) LOL Sgi for you indulgance with the puns. Jisdu
