Just finished "The Cherokee Perspective" and I recommend it. It is unique in the way it spans the ancient ways to the modern world. There is even a section on modern cherokee poetry (mostly by Pam Taylor and (my favorite) Lloyd Owle. There are other poets as well.
It is primarily but not entirely devoted to the Eastern Cherokees.
Chapter 5 is unique in that it is a collection of interviews covering a diversity of topics my favorite (oddly enough) is the one about cherokee cooking. My copy is paperback I don't know if there is a hardback edition or not.
