Hello to you GrayBear, There are a lot of folks who have some Cherokee ancestry. All communication does not need and should not be about how much or when. a person is. Who he is today, not who he had as a relative some number of years ago. The Cherokee Nation should decide if they are a nation or are a race. They have rules like joining a race but want to be looked upon as jf a nation. Hay I like spam, a good hot biscuit is always good. I have noticed that the older I have gotten the less fry bread I can eat, and must be careful about all the oil. Get my insides a churning. A small drink before bed sure helps the night go along. We had some rain and the snow is gone,,,,good
Best Wishes…….MB

My ol' bones got where they don't like cold and snow. I can get goose bumps from a photo of snow. Most of the time I haven't had a fridg. Just since October, so Spam was my #1 choice in fine dinning and now I'm in a habit. The store next door only has chicken meats. Taste like sawdust with chicken fat added. So ol' spam is pretty primo for my taste buds. the biscuit recipe I had included bacon grease but I don't remember what all and how much of each. I got so much stuff boxed away, I'll probably never look at again, that recipe is probably there I just don't know were there or someplace is. I got stuff in Texas, Arizona, Nevada and three place in Oregon. All I ever did was pack a suit case roll up my sleeping bag and go! Now I'm kind of hoping I don't have to do this any more. Just stay here year around and get fat and lazy. Well I'm still hearing talk from the bureaucracy. But nobody is getting anything in there pocket. I'm guessing the whiteman selected Ndn leaders are making a bargain to throw in with the 'New World Order' in trade for a seat at the UN. Everything is running under the current of the river, can't see whats going on, nobody reporting...I just hate it when everybody starts talking in whispers and behind closed doors. You get the feeling no good is going to come of it. I'm thinking all the indeginous people going to be looking at the sky for a sign and its going to be a mushroom cloud. The Busch family bought a lot of land in south America and the Clinton's are packing to leave...when the rats abandon the ship, you gotta look to see what condition the ship is in. Its not good the Ndn nations are getting so quite right when you want to know whats going on. I'm going to have to dig a little deeper but for the bigger part most Ndn's are just sittin' on there hands waiting to see. I remember when I was younger we got into some pretty good fights. Specially the Hoopa's out in California. Pat Melendy was a pretty well informed guy knew how to take over abandoned federal installations. The Coquille about run the Coos out of the country around here taking over old Federal sites. Like the old Coast Guard Station. Really upset some of the contractors, but the Feds backed the Coquille... think it saves the Feds a lot of paper work. Coos people are more fun though.... Better go Mountain Bear, have a great day...Ol' Gray Bear... Jim

Mountain Bear..I found the truth about obama's words Summary: The U.S. endorsement of UNDRIP means “business as usual” for Native Americans The bottom line result of the Obama Administration’s so-called “change” in position is really no change at all. At best, it is a “conditional” endorsement of UNDRIP, one which essentially allows the United States to ignore any provision of UNDRIP under any circumstance which would require a substantive change in US law or policy. Its greatest achievement does not benefit the indigenous peoples of the United States. Rather, it allows the United States to come in from the cold spotlight under which it has shivered since September 2007 as the last of the four pariah nations to have opposed UNDRIP without having to commit to changing any of its laws or policies that are detrimental to the indigenous peoples that live within its borders. At best, the Administration’s “change in position” allowing the United States to endorse UNDRIP entirely misses the point. At worst, it is a cynical move in the game of international politics that signifies nothing for the indigenous peoples of this country but “business as usual.”
As always, the burden of bringing about real change, “change you can believe in” will fall upon the native nations, tribes and bands of this country. No messianic figure, much less President Obama, is going to announce legislative and policy changes that will restore or secure the federal government’s recognition of our sovereignty and our concomitant right to freely determine our political status and freely pursue our economic, social and cultural development. If we want a brighter future for us and our children, a future filled with freedom to choose and opportunity to achieve, we shall have to seize it with our own hands. It will not be given to us. We shall have to do the hard work over the long haul.

Thats what I mean by the 'White" appointed Ndn leadership. I remember when the Modoc were taking it in the shorts from the Klamath Bureaucracy. they been in the fight for a long time...Obama is just words, he's pattin' the Ndn leaders on the back while he picks their pockets. Nobody on this forum has ever been a part of the fight, thats why they don't talk. They just want someone else to fight the fight then they will stand-up with their hand out and want their share. but I'll keep looking for truths. As far as I've been able to tell the leadership of the United Cherokee Nation doesn't lead, it tells people Happy Birthday. It makes me sad to know these people gather to be known but do not speak. Together they can make block votes that can make a difference in elections, stand shoulder to shoulder with other peoples fights. So it becomes a force to be reckoned with. Support groups that are taking the fight to the bureaucracy for recognition and treaty rights and recognition. I wonder how many of the people on this forum even knows what the sixth article, first paragraph second clause of the American Constitution says. The Constitution that the bureaucracy takes a pledge to, then breaks their word with-in the day. Sad business when the only concern is percentage of blood...the old ways said if you have one drop of Cherokee blood, your Cherokee...Until another day.. friend.....

Hello.....GB Its all to much for me grasp right at this moment. There is a lot of things that are done, in the past and yet today. It was not right then, nor right today, but it goes on. As so it changes continuously, it is hard to keep up and try to fix wrongs from the past all at the same time. Most folks just try to keep up with today and I feel sure that it was the same 100 years ago.
Take care///////MB

Si-yo Mountain Bear. What I try to communicate is when people gather together as a single minded block they can be very powerful. Because I sell swords and knives, I get old ones that I have a need to Identify to determine there value. One such will be marked AOH and thats the Ancient Order of Hibernia(Ireland in the old days) Its a present day order that was originally started to defend Irish people that came to the New World as indentured slaves. They are a proud and carring race of people, willing to keep a bargain but not be abused during the agreement. When they started here in the new land, they went out of their way to find Irish and specially Irish catholic to make sure they was no abuses. When they wanted to take a political view, they all took the same view so that politically they had to be catered to and as far as I know they still have to be catered to because theres enough of then to effect an election (remember JFK)When a people will gather to stand for one goal it works. If you go to the county tax assessors office to complain about in increase on your property taxes, you will be kissed off at the door....but take everyone in your county at the same time and they will talk to you. I can tell you many times I was a part of taking it to the bureaucracy including having a judge taken out of office. The law says he can only hold office during periods of good behavior. But one person alone can't do it...He said" In this court room I am the Law" No the law is the Constitution and the Judges in every state are bound there-by. But then I was the President of an Organization with 250 people that had enough. Out west it seems people are more willing to fight for something they believe in...win or loose... I'm getting old but now my son carries on and many fights are left unfought. Idaho is a good example of a people willing to go to length to maintain freedoms and rights, with-out a treaty. A treaty is a supreme law! I know you have more pressing problems at the moment Mountain Bear but keep an eye on that light at the end of the tunnel...It might be a train ! Later Ol Mountain Bear keep the home fires burning....its a hard trip and get harder My prayers are with you... Jim

GB I hear what you say and it is true. I used to fight many fights but I have my hands full and it has mellowed me out some. The blood still boils up but no time or energy to fight the fight, maybe someday. Have you started drawing your SS yet. I started mine. When I went to work for the Navy a retiree could draw retirement plus SS, not any longer. I had to give up 2/3 Rd's of my SS that I worked and paid for before I went Navy. There are lots of folks who have worked under more than one retirement plan and they get both, amount depends on what was paid in. I feel robbed but what can one do? I paid into SS enough to be getting 1200 dollars a month and I get 400. It helps pay the bills. Things not right all over, can't fight it all. Got to get by today.
Take care ....MB

Si-yo, if I understand SS you also have to pay for insurance out of what they give you and now they can determine what they will pay for and what they won't pay for at the doctors. If I understand what I've been reading they even have a set of persons that will decide if your too old for a specific operation. If they say "No" then it don't matter what you have for insurance, the doctors are not authorized to do the operation. Boy is that a can of worms. I'm sure there is a lot of detail to it in small print. But in Oregon they have a"right to die" law Needless to say when all seems hopeless and a person doesn't have faith and a person that appears to have the authority tells you..."It hopeless" I think probably many persons allow for the shot or pill and pass on in total ignorance that the state is going to take everything thats yours ,burn you up ,dump your ashes and make a record that your gone. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet. I don't even catch a cold...I've only been to a doctor once in the last 40 years, didn't agree with him, told my sister and she checks my heart occassionally, checks my blood sugar gives me herbal teas for what ever I need and she can heal anything that doesn't need an artery put back together. So I think I'll stick with the old ways the bureaucracy likes it better now that I'm old, they don't have to look forward to telling me I can't have any help....Keep-up the good-work Mountain Bear its a long climb and you will find at the top you can get lost, so mark your trail with friends that will help you later. Jim

GrayBear....Sounds as if you know a bit about Medicare. SS is bad enough, it sends you back a bit if the dollars you paid in, but Medicare is the Government paying for your health care. Any one who has dealt with getting the little people of the Government to pay for something can tell you that is no place to be. I took my wife in for test few weeks ago, lab bill came it was for $350 medicare paid $50 the rest was discounted. Labs or anyone can't keep the doors open if they only get 50 on a 350 bill. I am convinced that government health care will be the end of much of our services we have. Medicare will refuse to pay or pay such a small sum no will get the service that is needed. You are right on.
hang in .......MB

Each year, I would come here from October until March, my brother was here from March until October. He would go to Arizona for the winter and I would go to the high desert for the summer. I have five acres at a place called 'The Sinks' I paid $470.00 for five acres and a well with an out house and a cabin. My brother is a VietNam vet and wore a lot of agent orange. He's on SS and has medi-care he fills me in on a lot of detail and I've tried to make heads or tails out obama-care...far as I can tell it does to the people not for the people but it is what I have come to expect of our traitorius bureaucracy. They speak only with untruths, always have always will. Thats why I would wish people would stand for something instead of falling for anything. When people have millions to pay for a run at office that pays thousands you would think some-one would catch on. A man that does nothing is as big an enemy as a man that stands against my freedoms, because cowards are loose canons, you can't stand back to back with cowards. they're the ones most apt to shoot you in the back. Do you have a physicians desk reference manual ? You can get one from a pharmacy where you get your prescriptions filled. I get updated one by getting the ones they're done with. they get new ones every year. Doctors don't read them they just prescribe what they get a kick-back off from. If it has a side effect and doesn't kill you they change the prescription. You can't get one doctor to testify against another and with-out'expert' witness testimony you can't sue a doctor and win. so there is little penalty in being wrong...for them.... Keep on, keepin' on Mountain Bear its a long climb...I been there and I don't know where I'm going even today...seven + years later.... the Ol' Gray Bear, signin' off...

It is good to get away for a change, even if to the desert. I have not been to "the sinks", but think it is like the area I grew up, Muleshoe Tx.. I always feel at home in that world. I also spent year in Vietnam, went over in 68. Can't say I ever looked back. I wish your brother well. We will find all kinds of people in this world. Some do the right thing for the wrong reason, some do the wrong thing for the right reason, some do the wrong thing for the wrong reason but few do the right thing for the right reason. Then there are the spin doctors, those who spin a thing up in several ways until it is a fact and it is false as hell, but all ways self serving. Don't even get me started. Wife doing better....thanks.....MB

Si-yo Mountain Bear, Your comments are right on cue. With what went on in Arizona. A democrate and a liberal judge got shot...right when some republicans got into office that won't go along with Democrate progams. Now its "Cool-it" to the reporters that and talk show host that have been pointing out the un-american activities that have been taking place in the highest offices in the land. The people that want rights and freedoms are being called indigenous. Geez, I hope they figure out what has happened to the original indigenous people, by reading their history books, Could save themselves some real headaches. Its thats freedom thing that get people into trouble. The choice seems to be slavery or die. I thinking a lot more liberal judges and politicians that have plans to help the U.S. and Ndn nations become a part of the New World Order better rethink their stratagies. The Ndn Nation Leadership seems to already be bought and paid for so now it up to the red-necks. Stay off the horizon and ride a short pony, the one worlders are shooting at anything they see move. They're really close to what they want I'm sure shooting nine year old girls, born on 9-11 only betters their cause.... Sad world we live in.... ol'Gray bear...
