I've always was told my grandfather was found in the woods, as a baby, I've search in all the Genealogy sites, and come up with a dead end in where my grandfather is from. Well the lady who cuts my hair is Cherokee, and from Kentucky, I told her my family is from Kentucky, but we moved to Indiana in the late 40's right after the war. I told her my family was weird, and my grandfather was found in the woods, in Jasimine County, and laughed, she didn't! She asked questions like have you tried to see where your family is from, I said yeah, I came up a dead end, I can't find my family, and have checked throughout the internet. Then see told me stories of Indians who abandoned some of their children back in the trail of tears, I said I couldn't tell you. She asked when was he born, I stated 1854. Really, she said, she said if I was interested in knowing, I told her I have been searching for years, but come up with the same old dead end. The County seat burned down, so no records, I'm just looking for help to find out where my family came from, If I'm part native American, that is a plus. Again, just looking for help to see where I came from!

Good luck with your quest. Our families story is this: my great great great grandmother was born in 1836. She supposedly was given to a white family, her mother knowing she would probably die during the removal. All the records state she was adopted and her name was Misniah. Whether the story is true or not we will never know. I know a lot of Cherokee hid in the mountains to escape removal. That is where my Cherokee blood came from. My family is from Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia.
